Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM is seeking a Research Software Engineer to work at its T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY.
At IBM Research, we are building the next generation Hybrid Cloud for regulated industries, incorporating unprecedented degrees of security, performance, reliability, and elasticity. The most challenging task is the definition of a first-in-class secure infrastructure, requiring an aggressive innovation strategy in the supporting software toolchain.
Desired candidates are those who are passionate about advanced innovations in the Linux eco system, to evolve it to the next generation secure Cloud infrastructure. You should have experience in virtualization technologies (e.g. virtual machines and container technologies) and have some experience in academia or industry proven in this field. Also, experience in building solutions on top of virtualization technologies such as: QEMU and KVM; Intel-VT/AMD-V/Arm Virtualization; Docker or other container runtimes; or compiler technologies for secure cloud and edge computing.
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering is required.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
-Understanding of the implementation of various Virtualization Technologies (Docker/containers/etc., virtual machines, qemu, kvm, libvirt, etc.)-1 year
-Hands on experience in at least one system programming language, such as: C/C++; Rust; Go-1 year
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
-Track record of open source project contributions-1 year-Cloud security- 1 year-Compiler technologies for security-1 year
