Essential Responsibilities:

· Work in a cooperative setting with instructors, students, and support personnel to accomplish the mutual goal of training and placing our students;

· Demonstrates and applies a thorough and accurate knowledge of the teaching field and discipline;

· Plans and organizes instruction in ways which maximize student learning;

· Practice excellence in teaching and instruction;

· Modifies instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students’ needs;

· Prepare lesson plans and teach workshops as prescribed by the approved institutional curriculum;

· Encourages the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments;

· Administer tests and maintain a record of student grades;

· Issue lab assignments and homework;

· Conduct workshops in a professional and educational environment;

· Enforce school policies and procedures;

· Exhibit reliability to the students through good attendance and punctuality (i.e. to start and end workhops on time);

· Maintain proper discipline and order in the classroom so that learning is not hindered by unacceptable student behavior;

· Motivate students to learn and enjoy the material being studied;

· Contribute to the Institution and the community by attending, and participating in, all scheduled faculty and in-service meetings;

· Demonstrate evidence of professional growth and academic currency;

· Participate in retention activities such as but not limited to calling, emailing and special events for students;

· Advise students on academic issues and record advisement in writing and/or in the campus’ data base as required by policy;

· Maintain scheduled “office hours” to be available to students for coaching and tutoring;

· Assist with problem solving for student issues

Mentor Responsibilities:

· Serve as mentor to students;

· Foster a Slack community of student support through regular monitoring and timely engagement;

· Maintain a thorough knowledge of the curriculum content;

· Adhere to Southern Careers Institute’s professional development standards;

· Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with assigned students in a professional and instructive environment;

· Counsel students on the importance of attendance, contact students who have missed a class, and document all attendance related matters;

· Motivate students in a way that makes them enjoy the material being studied;

· Advise students on issues and record advisements in writing;

· Responsible for student outcomes such as persistence rates, pass rates, and completion rates

Requirements

· Demonstrate competency in the Cyber Security field, such as academic or vocational training and credentials, related work experience, licensure, or certification;

· At least 1 year of experience teaching in post-secondary education in the assigned teaching field is highly preferred.

· Technical expertise: A Cyber Security Instructor should have a strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts, technologies, and best practices, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in real-world situations.

· Instructional design and delivery skills: A Cyber Security Instructor should be able to design and deliver engaging and effective training programs that meet the needs of their students. This may include creating course materials, developing hands-on exercises and activities, and using a variety of teaching techniques to ensure that students learn effectively.

· Communication and interpersonal skills: A Cyber Security Instructor should be able to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences, including students with varying levels of knowledge and experience. They should also be able to build rapport with students, provide constructive feedback, and create a positive and supportive learning environment.

· Time management and organizational skills: A Cyber Security Instructor should be able to manage their time effectively and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality training programs. They should also be able to maintain accurate and organized records of student progress and assessments.

· Continuous learning and professional development: A Cyber Security Instructor should be committed to ongoing learning and professional development in order to stay current with industry trends and best practices in cybersecurity. This may include participating in professional development workshops, attending conferences, and obtaining additional certifications.

Certifications:

· CompTIA Security +, Network +, Linux +

· Additional CompTIA certifications are highly desirable

Computer Skills:

· Networking and communication protocols: TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SSH, etc.

· Operating systems: Windows, Linux, macOS, etc.

· Virtualization software: VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V, etc.

· Security tools: Firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, antivirus software, etc.

· Network monitoring and analysis tools: Wireshark, tcpdump, nmap, etc.

· Vulnerability scanning and assessment tools: Nessus, OpenVAS, Burp Suite, etc.

· Cybersecurity frameworks and best practices: ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, COBIT, etc.

· Project management tools: JIRA, Asana, Trello, etc.
