As we continue to grow, Unit 42 is searching for a highly motivated Forensic Lab Records Manager interested in working with and supporting our DFIR lab to join our Reston, VA team. PLEASE NOTE: This job is on-site in Reston, VA- remote work is NOT available for this specific job opening. 

The Forensic Lab Records Manager will report directly to the Forensic Lab Director and play a key role in ensuring that digital evidence is handled and tracked according to best practices. The Forensic Lab Records Manager will be responsible for auditing the tracking, maintenance, security and proper storage of all evidence related to DFIR investigations. The Forensic Lab Records Manager will also act as a subject matter expert on our  information processes, including but not limited to, the organization, storage, archival, retrieval and sharing of information on multiple platforms. Additionally, the Forensic Lab Records Manager will support the lab tech team’s technical functions and operations as needed. Accountability and resourcefulness are key elements to the long term success and development of this role. A flexible schedule, including a willingness to assist as needed during evening hours and on weekends is essential. 

Your Impact

  • Administration of the records management program, including auditing the inventory, tracking, and maintenance of all incoming and outgoing evidence in accordance with company and lab procedures and standards throughout the case lifecycle, from inception to closure
  • Providing advice and guidance to management and staff on the creation, maintenance and use of records
  • Maintain and refine RFID evidence tracking system
  • Regularly assess, develop and refine our evidence intake and maintenance workflows, process and policies
  • Perform QC across all evidence records to ensure process consistency and accuracy, ensuring all our evidence is accounted for at all times
  • Conduct periodic records management quality control reviews, compliance audits, risk assessments and surveys to measure the effectiveness of electronic systems and for general program improvement purposes
  • Work with our product vendors to order and onboard new evidence HDDs periodically and as necessary
  • Work with lab techs and consultants to properly return or destroy evidence for closed matters
  • Periodically enforce our evidence return policies and data archive policies
  • Assist lab techs with Jira ticket fulfillment requests including: data extractions, GCP data retrieval, data migrations, collection drives, deliverable drives, case close outs etc.) 

Qualifications

Your Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in relevant records and information management fields, including professional IT/paralegal/records management experience
  • A general understanding of digital forensic processes and workflows
  • Experience in evaluating organizational processes and developing appropriate records management solutions
  • Experience with physical and electronic records management policies, practices, and procedures
  • Experience with electronic records management methodologies and systems
  • Experience with troubleshooting routine operations of computer hardware and software
  • A general understanding of computer network infrastructure and topology
  • Exceptional organizational, presentation and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent listening and comprehension skills
  • Passion for technology, cyber security, and digital forensics
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a related or relevant field such as information technology, records management, criminal justice, information security, or digital forensics, or equivalent military experience required

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $102,000 to $150,000./yr. The offered compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus. A description of our employee benefits may be found here.
