PRODUCT SECURITY ENGINEER, DETECTION AND RESPONSE

At SpaceX we push the boundaries of in-space capabilities with products such as our Starlink low Earth orbit satellite constellation, Starship spacecraft, and Falcon 9 launch vehicle. Starlink is a product that offers unprecedented global connectivity and information freedom - security and reliability is a core program necessity.

The Starlink product security team is seeking technical and passionate security engineers to help protect the network. At SpaceX, we build software and hardware products from the ground up, and our detection and monitoring systems are no different. We're looking for candidates that are up for the challenge of defending a complex system against global attackers. Expect to split your time between writing code to improve monitoring and detection systems, actively hunting for compromises in our infrastructure, and occasionally leading incident response efforts.

If you are passionate about defending and want to make an impact on Starlink, then we want to talk to you!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and maintain detection and response systems to augment Starlink incident response capability
  • Investigate vulnerability reports and escalate to appropriate Starlink teams
  • Work directly with Starlink engineering teams to integrate monitoring technology throughout the product
  • Lead response and investigation to possible security incidents
  • Monitor and prioritize security alerts across the Starlink system
  • Analyze and recommend improvements for security issue root causes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or physics discipline; OR 2+ years of professional experience in security software development in lieu of a degree
  • Experience with software development in Python, C/C++, or Golang

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Track record of identifying hard-to-find threats in computer networks
  • Experience monitoring large fleets of Linux systems
  • Experience responding to high-impact security incidents
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity and to learn new technologies quickly

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours as needed.

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
