About the Team
The Security Analytics team is reimagining security by creating innovative differentiated services that touch every part of Wealthsimple. Using a comprehensive approach of fusing security intelligence into all products, the group is focused on generating customer trust in Wealthsimple’s products and brand. The team practices adversarial thinking with an assumed breach mentality in order to build an incremental set of protection controls and uncover risks in our critical assets to protect valuable data and safeguard against insider risk. Working closely with designers, product managers and other engineering teams, the team is geared towards automation and agility.
A typical project starts with an idea for a potential opportunity, followed by rapid experimentation to validate the idea. The team works in short cycles, building first iterations in a scrappy way to maximize the rate of learning. If an experiment is successful, we explore how to scale the idea, integrate it into our product, and make it visible to the largest audience. Learnings and processes are extracted from each experiment to build infrastructure to improve the efficiency of these cycles - think A/B testing frameworks, systems to support client data control, subscribing to security updates, and other tools that make each experiment easier to implement than the last.
This work is highly visible internally and externally, providing immense opportunities to work with teams across Wealthsimple, such as Fraud, Reliability, Privacy, Compliance and Security in order to build useful services our customers would use to ultimately increase their overall confidence in the Wealthsimple brand.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and create prevention and detection controls aligned to security analytics services
  • Address core risk principles (confidentiality, integrity) in our critical assets and infrastructure
  • Apply software engineering best practices for continuous improvement and integration
  • Work with engineering teams to create and operationalize security analytics models
  • Increase visibility of logging and access controls for proactive and dynamic detections
  • Ensure security models are well tested, documented and maintained
  • Support development of reports/dashboards/tools used by direct stakeholders
  • Work as the primary developer on a project regularly communicating progress to stakeholders to ensure the quality and timeliness of work.
  • Visible impact on our data and security culture and shape our best practices
  • Participate in our hiring process and shape the growth of the team

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience with AWS, databases (SQL/NoSQL)
  • Experience with data centric design and decisioning, creating data based services
  • Experience with event driven architectures and streaming data sets
  • Experience with data handling and data security
  • Has the ability to solve problems creatively - working diligently to find the shortest path to shipping and validating hypotheses
  • Passionate for mentoring and coaching others

Nice to have:

  • Exposure to model building, anomaly detection, user behavior analysis
  • Exposure to Information Security
