23andMe is looking for an Intern to join our Enterprise Security team this summer! This is an opportunity to learn while working in project teams on a variety of tasks - from threat detection and threat assessment using multiple enterprise security tools, to providing targeted responses and analysis of the corporate environment for potential risks.

What You’ll Do

  • Be a key member of the Enterprise Security team.
  • Address multiple technical challenges across multiple security tools and applications.
  • Document controls based on an industry framework and interviewing key stakeholders.
  • Actively threat hunt within security tools and determine steps to triage and filter the true events from background noise.
  • Create threat hunting playbooks.
  • Work with vulnerability management platforms to create reporting and then partner with IT to ensure timely patching and remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
  • Design and implement new security playbooks and automation.
  • Define, design, and build threat detection methodologies; help to improve the security posture of the company.
  • Work among the greater IT and 23andMe security teams to build integrations, solve challenging problems, and help to automate our response to targeted threats.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A passion for security!
  • Some knowledge and capability with one or more scripting and programming languages (e.g. bash, go, R, Python, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of operating systems (e.g., MacOS, Linux, Windows).
  • Understanding of security concepts.
  • Demonstrated skills around offensive or defensive security technologies.
  • Ability to communicate well and work with others.
  • Ability to think critically about challenging problems to determine the most effective method to solve and address.
  • Authorization to work in the US

 

Strongly Preferred

  • You are curious, excited by technologies used by Security Researchers, Analysts and Engineers to protect, detect, and alert upon suspicious activities and intrusions.
  • You are self-motivated to work and achieve, and you are also a great collaborator on teams.
  • When given a technical problem, you are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and dig through security event logs and monitor, prioritize and react to signals coming out of our security tools.
  • You enjoy a collaborative environment with small project teams, and you lead by example and share your creativity, wit and experience across the team.
