Amazon Payments processes millions of transactions every day across numerous countries and payment methods. As the Manager of Security Engineering for Core Payments involving payment critical data storage and transmission, you will grow a team that can solve some of the most challenging and exciting problems to effectively respond to large-scale threats against Amazon Payments services. You will own the vision and architecture for your products. You will work closely with your customers, partner teams, and core platform engineering teams to ensure the needs of your customers are clearly understood and effectively addressed. You will collaborate with the senior leadership team to drive key engineering and business decisions that achieve the right outcomes. Since our systems are foundational to the Amazon ecosystem, you will also have the opportunity to learn about various businesses across Amazon.

A successful candidate will have an established background as a security engineering manager responsible for high security environments and developing security solutions at scale . This will include deep experience in application and infrastructure security domains as well as managing software delivery.

Additional responsibilities include:

* Hiring, developing, and mentoring security engineers, software engineers, and managing the day-to-day activities of the team
* Working closely with developers, business leaders, and other security experts to uncover problems and develop the best approaches to solve them
* Owning the strategic planning and development roadmaps for the organization
* Building cadence and connection with the payment teams the role supports
* Communicating effectively with senior management as well as with colleagues from research teams, software engineering teams, and other technical and business teams
* Regular reporting on the status of the security challenges and progress toward solving them

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field or relevant work experience
* 10+ years of industry experience with hands-on security engineering experience
* 10+ years of risk assessment and enabling organizations making security decisions
* 10+ years managing and building teams (including coaching and mentoring)
* 10+ years of experience communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with building software solutions (managing developing teams, writing code)
* Experience securing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability
* Significant experience and detailed technical knowledge in multiple areas of: security engineering, system and network security, authentication and security protocols, cryptography, and application security
* Experience with threat modeling or other risk identification techniques, and risk management
* Experience designing and/or reviewing the security of systems in conjunction with a development team
* Experience in secure software design, secure architectures, security testing, or vulnerability detection or remediation
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal process and maximum productivity
* Strong project management experience desired for working on cross-functional projects
* Demonstrated track record of project delivery for large, cross-functional projects with evolving requirements
* Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor other managers and security engineers while building and maintaining high agility and high morale
* Excellent written and verbal technical communication with an ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
* Graduate degree (MS or PhD) in Computer science/Math or related field
* Experience with a wide range of technologies and the ability to pick up new technologies quickly.
