Job summary
Amazon Web Services (AWS)‘s World Wide Revenue Operations (WWRO) is scaling out a security and governance team focused on the big data and internal service teams that enable AWS Sales and Marketing. Your work will continuously raise the security bar that protects AWS customers, while enabling our field teams to be the most efficient and effective in the world.

WWRO Security is on the cutting edge of security for a wide variety of platforms and technologies including cloud services, identity and access management, third-parties, and analytics, all operating at massive scale. Similarly, our highly collaborative team is committed to each team member’s growth as our business grows.

WWRO Security is looking for a Security Engineering Manager to secure services at scale, driving meaning from vast datasets, managing escalations and communications to senior leadership, and applying strong judgement that balances immediate security needs with longer-term, strategic planning. This role is inherently cross-functional, working closely with senior leadership, privacy and governance experts, security engineers, and dozens of partner teams. If you enjoy working in a rapidly changing environment and influencing the protection of our customers within a large global organization, this position will provide you with a challenging opportunity.

Who are you? You have a strong understanding of driving security and solutions at scale, implementing security controls, and the lifecycle of product improvement. You can identify, gather and report appropriate security metrics. You have experience managing project delivery from inception through go-live and operational support. You’re passionate about success and use that passion to drive support from others.

As a manager at Amazon, you will be expected to speak authoritatively on behalf of your team. Your technical knowledge should demonstrate both depth and breadth. You will be responsible for your team’s organizational structure and how that team works within the larger WWRO Security team. Leveraging the strengths of individual team members, delegating tasks appropriately and managing delivery of long term projects will all be critical tasks for this role. A candidate for this role will have both management and technical expertise and actively participate in the organization’s planning processes.

Managers in this role must define metrics to quickly and accurately present the team’s performance and variance against its goals. They participate in and/or coordinate cross-organization projects, effectively communicating status and results across the division. This role will be expected to seek out stretch assignments for their current team and foster their professional career development.

This role will provide career growth opportunities as you gain new security skills in the course of your work. Security Engineering Managers in WWRO have an opportunity to experiment, learn, build tools, and work with teams building new technology and services at massive scale. Security engineers at all levels have the opportunity to learn from and be mentored by those who are building and securing our cutting-edge services.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and improving metrics that drive desired behavior and security outcomes
  • Influencing decision-makers and stakeholders in multiple teams across the organization to achieve a consistently high security bar
  • Validating the security of new and existing products, technologies, services, and business processes
  • Creating security guidance and documentation
  • Developing security tools and automation
  • Leading security projects with end-to-end ownership
  • Support for mentoring, team building and recruiting activities
