Atlassian is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our Security Development teamThis team builds and operates mature software systems to improve Atlassian's security posture. As a Principal Engineer, you'll be part of a team responsible for creating, implementing, monitoring, scaling, and optimizing the code that powers platform services.You'll develop the technical roadmap for 3-5 engineering teams within your immediate group, whilst overseeing projects across multiple teams throughout the organisation. You'll report to the Senior Manager, Security Development. If you are a strong principal developer interested in developing your info security expertise, this role is a rare opportunity to do just that!Primary ResponsibilitiesBreakdown complex problems into elegant solutions.Influence the technical direction of multiple teams.Influence architecture using knowledge of system performance and scalability.Grow other developers. Be a mentor and lead by example to help build an awesome team.You still code and your code sets an example for others to follow.

On your first day: we'll expect you to have:

  • A passion for delivering high-quality, operationally mature code on-time
  • Responsibility for large-scale projects
  • Experience mentoring and developing more junior developers
  • Experience building scalable, reliable and highly available systems
  • Fluency in any modern programming language
  • Don't worry if you aren't a security pro

It's awesome if you:

  • Build large-scale, high load distributed systems on AWS or other cloud infrastructure with a focus on operational maturity
  • Understand processing large datasets and stream processors
  • Use data to evaluate new technologies and technical directions
  • Have familiarity with security systems (huge bonus but not a requirement)
