About the Role: 

In this Principal Security Developer – Managed Risk role, you will be responsible for technically leading the Security Analytics R&D team of Arctic Wolf reporting to the Director of R&D – Managed Risk. This includes providing technical leadership and decision-making supervision over Security Developers in the Managed Risk team engaged in the development of capabilities for the detections of vulnerabilities and risk configuration in both cloud and non-cloud endpoints 

You will be responsible for technically defining and helping lead the implementation of these capabilities and working very closely with platform development teams to ensure a strong factory pipeline for best-in-class content for vulnerability and configuration detections. In addition, you will work with the Director to establish KPIs to measure the success and efficacy of security content and support capabilities.  Leading the design of architecture/function jointly with product management is a core function to jointly define and execute on a technical roadmap, assess skillset of resources slated for hire to and mentor of the security development team members for their growth. 

As our ideal candidate you have a strong security engineering, software development, and solution engineering mindset, willing to work with a fast-paced high growth environment. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Technically lead theManaged RiskR&D team. Helping them build the architecture, APIs, components, content feeds to setup the content delivery pipeline/factory 
  • Work closely withArctic Wolf platform teams to define requirements and integrations needed to deliver content. This includes the agent, scanner and asset management capabilities amongst others.
  • Collaborate with product management and other R&D technical leaders from other teams to ensure end-to-end feature implementation and successful transition into production inclusive of S2 SecOps teams.
  • Instill best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements, and deliver high-quality work on tight schedules
  • Technically oversee the full software development lifecycle of managed risk capabilities and content.
  • Clearly articulate engineering designs and technical strategies to a vast set of internal stakeholders
  • Synthesize expansive and ambiguous business requirements and accomplish them through technical design and software implementation
  • Coach teams through the process of planning, navigating trade-offs, stakeholder management and driving timely resolutions
  • Lead by example. Instill the Arctic Wolf Development Principles by living them on a daily basis
  • Ensure teams are highly motivated, performing well, and delivering work on time
  • Remove any blockers preventing teams from getting their work done
  • Make sure each team is clear on the objectives and goals they are striving to achieve
  • Ensure team is technically adhering to all SOC2 controls, secure coding practices, and acceptable use policies
  • Work with the Director of R&D –Managed Riskto ensure teams are highly motivated, performing well, and delivering work on time 
  • Work with the Director of R&D –ManagedRisk to make sure each team is clear on the technical objectives and goals they are striving to achieve 

  

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • 10+years experiencewith the at least two of the following Development Languages & experience with all the Methodologies: 

o Python, Go, Java, and C/C++ 

o Test Driven Development 

o Full understanding and use of DevOps methods/tooling 

o Full understanding/application of secure development practices 

o Cloud Development: AWS, Azure, and GCP using Kubernetes/Containers, IaaS, and key PaaS services is highly desirable 

o Experience working with vulnerability management platforms such as OpenVAS or equivalent commercial offerings (i.e. Qualys, Tanium) 

o Experience in infrastructure automation/deployments (i.e Jenkins, ansible, chef, puppet etc) highly desirable 

  • 5+years experiencewith at least 1 or more of the following security tooling: 

o NGFW (PAN, CISCO, Fortinet, etc.) 

o Open Source IPS/IDS/NSM (e.g. Bro/Zeek/Suricata) 

o Open Source Vulnerability Scanning and Assessment Tools (e.g. OpenVAS, nmap, OpenSCAP, Metasploit ) 

o SIEMs and Security Analytics platforms (e.g. Elastic, Open Source Big Data Stacks, Splunk, etc.) is desirable 

o Knowledge of configuration and security policy management capabilities of the mainline Cloud Service Providers (Azure, AWS, GCP) 

o Familiarity with the application of Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmarks / hardening guides is an asset. 

 

  • Ability to troubleshoot, educate, and share information with non-technical people
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of technical education and work experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to deliver rationale for design decisions
  • Resourceful self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude
  • High EQ and sense of empathy
  • Experience with modern development methodologies (Agile, Kanban, XP, etc.)
  • Demonstrated technical project management skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of technical education and work experience.
  • Resourceful self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude
