About the team

Stripe is seeking motivated candidates to lead and support our Security incident response capability. These individuals will have immediate impact and visibility to a variety of Stripe products and services as they influence and guide responses. This job operates with high visibility to senior leadership as Stripe is hyper focused on adverse events that could impact our customers. The successful candidates will be experienced in designing and working processes and methods for servicing perceived and legitimate incidents related to security and privacy. As a security minded incident responder you will lead teams through ambiguous situations and drive tasks and decision making to responsibly resolve events for Stripe and ultimately it’s customers.

What you’ll do

Responsibilities

  • Be the subject matter expert that drives engagement on security & privacy incidents and ensure our runbooks and methods are followed to ensure an efficient and effective response.
  • Act as our front line on-call active responder, coordinating and managing incident resolution with speed, cross-functional collaboration, and accuracy, partnering with a global and broad set of stakeholders. 
  • Formulate strategy and deliver on communications to both internal stakeholders and Stripe’s users. Influence and make decisions through interpretation of data and consolidation of input from multiple stakeholders. 
  • Contribute to incident root cause analysis, identifying remediations and process improvement based on observed trends for Stripe incident processes. 
  • Manage programs and projects, in collaboration with engineering, product, and operations teams, focused on improvements to process, metrics, and framework.

Minimum requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience
  • A healthy skepticism for the status quo
  • Ability to drive concurrent projects and initiatives while managing operational responsibilities
  • Software engineering experience in a high-stakes production environment
  • A learning mindset, regardless of level or experience  
  • An exemplary, user-focused communication style; emphasizing clarity, empathy and accuracy
  • Skill and credibility delivering operational work while maintaining a high bar for quality
  • A willingness to lead by example and participate in the work as necessary
  • Experience with a broad range of technologies including endpoint detection, network technologies, and AWS cloud services.
  • Ability to create a healthy work environment that's both supportive and challenging
  • A history of delivering projects through cross team collaboration and partnerships
  • Demonstrated success overseeing internal tool development and automation at scale
  • Extremely strong focus on compliance, security and risk awareness
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Possess an empathetic, humble, customer-focused demeanor

Preferred qualifications

  • Able to work under pressure while keeping a professional and logical approach to solving problems
  • Experienced in knowing when to make fast and slow decisions 
  • Is technical in a way that allows them to understand the issues that arise at the intersection of security, infrastructure, and human systems.
  • Strong at process definition and optimization
  • Agile in processing new information and actively pivoting work to yield the most impactful results 
  • Intellectually curious, with great problem-solving skills
