Avint is seeking a motivated career and customer-oriented Cyber Security Engineer to join our team in the DMV area to provide unparalleled support to a federal agency’s cyber security goals.

The Cyber Security Engineer is an integral part of the cyber security team and a senior subject matter expert. The Cyber Security Engineer leads the identification and implementation of new security solutions, designs security systems and infrastructure, and provides all the necessary technical expertise to perform engineering support and system administration of specialized cybersecurity applications and big data analytical systems to include installation, configuration, performance tuning, migration, troubleshooting, updates, and training.

Responsibilities

  • Performing administration and engineering tasks for cybersecurity tools, including but not limited to firewalls, host and network intrusion detection/prevention, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools, and anti-malware solutions.
  • Researching new features, versions, vendor bug fixes, etc. to ensure all tools and solutions function in a reliable and secure fashion.
  • Collaborates in administering databases and network infrastructure.
  • Works in a team to integrate systems and solutions, triage issues, and prioritize tasks.
  • Works to identify intrusion or incident path or method through testing and evaluation procedures.
  • Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects.
  • Assist with document design, installation, and operations & maintenance guides.
  • Designing security models, reviewing and approving security configuration and installation.
  • Assists with maintaining the development and testing environments.
  • Provides expertise on Systems Engineering best practices related to Cybersecurity Operations.
  • Providing operations and engineering support for critical security systems and services including servers, endpoint security, computer forensics, vulnerability/penetration assessment/mitigation, and security event management.
  • Overseeing tuning and configuration changes in coordination with applicable stakeholders.
  • Overseeing troubleshooting of security tools and solutions, advising clients of impacts to risk.
  • Directing security engineering projects and leading a team of security engineers.
  • Automates integration with patch management, configuration management, and security/reporting infrastructures.
  • Participating in the development of engineering/information security policies, processes, procedures, and standards guidelines for development and operations environments.
  • Provide guidance and controls for the application of engineering processes and approaches across delivery projects.
  • Follow industry security updates, technologies, and practices on a continual basis to improve overall security management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • US citizenship required.
  • TS/SCI clearance required.
  • University Degree (BS), or equivalent years of related experience, and additionally 10+ years of related IT engineering experience required.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, Security +, CCSP, CCNP Security, CCNA Security, CISA, GSE, SCNA, GCIH, and/or CLSC are highly desirable.
  • Must have extensive IT experience in all aspects of Cyber Security with a vast array of IT systems involving end user as well as enterprise level networks.
  • IT security operational experience, including assessment of information assurance and interoperability.
  • Experience with Firewall and Secure Web Gateway administration, management, and maintenance.
  • Experience collaborating with Agencies to mature operational processes, reduce redundancies, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Experience understanding organizational needs, proposing solutions, and managing project execution efforts designed to deliver overall program benefits for Government Agencies.
  • Experience in NIST RMF or CDM Framework.
  • Experience integrating, troubleshooting, and automating systems in a Microsoft/Linux/Unix virtual environment (CentOS/RHEL preferred).
  • Experience administering Windows Server infrastructure, including software installations, installation/upgrades to operating systems and maintenance/troubleshooting.
  • Experience in Systems Administration with Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, backup operation and maintenance, and basic TCP/IP troubleshooting.
  • Experience integrating and troubleshooting systems in Windows and/or Linux environments.
  • Experience installing and configuring COTS software applications.
  • Strong experience with understanding and implementing STIGs and other vendor-provided hardening guidance.
  • Experience with log management, network protocols and testing.
