Avint is seeking a motivated career and customer-oriented Cyber Security Engineer/Engineering Process Analyst to join our team in the DMV area to provide unparalleled support to a federal agency’s cyber security goals.

The Cyber Security Engineer will serve as a system engineering process analyst/documentation specialist who will be able to test and document the current state of the information security architecture and provide improvement recommendations by gathering key insights found from testing and analyzing the current system and networks.

Responsibilities

  • Performing administration and engineering tasks for cybersecurity tools including but not limited to firewalls, host and network intrusion detection/prevention, and anti-malware solutions.
  • Researching new features, bug fixes, etc. To ensure all tools and solutions function in a reliable and secure fashion.
  • Troubleshooting of cybersecurity tools and solutions, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Performing configuration changes in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Providing operations and engineering support for critical security systems, including in-depth program analysis and coordination assignments, and services in support of the program.
  • Evaluating system security configurations and performing root cause analysis to determine how to provide optimal IT security for the organization.
  • Provides expertise on Systems Engineering best practices related to Cybersecurity Operations.
  • Assists with maintaining the development and testing environments.
  • Analyzes cyber system enterprise level requirements against approved architectures and system roadmaps.
  • Assist with document design, installation, and operations & maintenance guides.
  • Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects.
  • Works to identify intrusion or incident path or method through testing and evaluation procedures.
  • Recommend engineering policies, processes, procedures, and standards guidelines for development and operations environments.
  • Provide guidance and controls for the application of engineering processes and approaches across delivery projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • US citizenship required.
  • Top Secret clearance required.
  • University Degree (BS), or equivalent years of related experience, and additionally 7+ years of related IT engineering experience required.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, Security +, CCSP, CCNP Security, CCNA Security, CISA, GSE, SCNA, GCIH, and/or CLSC are highly desirable.
  • IT security operational experience, including assessment of information assurance and interoperability.
  • Experience collaborating with Agencies to mature operational processes, reduce redundancies, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Experience understanding organizational needs, proposing solutions, and managing project execution efforts designed to deliver overall program benefits for Government Agencies.
  • Experience in NIST RMF or CDM Framework.
  • Experience in conducting assessments at an Enterprise by reviewing technical documentation, conducting interviews and workshops to identify gaps and developing a tailored solution is highly desired.
  • Experience integrating, troubleshooting, and automating systems in a Microsoft/Linux/Unix virtual environment (CentOS/RHEL preferred).
  • Patch management on all Linux systems and databases and production systems; Apply regular and security updates to servers, database and web applications.
  • Experience administering Windows Server infrastructure, including software installations, installation/upgrades to operating systems and maintenance/troubleshooting.
  • Experience in Systems Administration with Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, backup operation and maintenance, and basic TCP/IP troubleshooting.
  • Experience integrating and troubleshooting systems in Windows and/or Linux environments.
  • Experience installing and configuring COTS software applications.
  • Strong experience with understanding and implementing STIGs and other vendor-provided hardening guidance.
  • Experience with log management, network protocols and testing.
