Cloud Security Engineer – Tallinn / London

Wise is one the fastest growing companies in Europe and we’re on a mission: to make money without borders the new normal. We’ve got 12 million customers across the globe. We transferred over £54 billion in the Financial Year 2021 alone, and we’re growing. Fast.

Current banking systems don’t let us send, spend or receive money across borders easily. Or quickly. Or cheaply.

So, we’re building a new one.

Enter: our Data Platform team! 🎉

For our customers, using Wise is as simple as sending money from A to B. Yet behind our app and website is a complex engine of currencies, routes, products and features, generating terabytes of data each day. Data Platform is at the core of systems that store, process and leverage this data, ultimately providing real time decision making capabilities that serve as one of many drivers for business growth.

It is imperative that we need to protect our customers’ money. There are many interesting challenges when it comes to meeting regulatory requirements world-wide. As a Cloud Security Engineer in the wider Platform tribe and Engineering organization, you will have an opportunity to directly affect cloud security engineering strategy, securing production systems ensuring we have strong and effective security controls in place, to detect and mitigate risks across our on-premises and Cloud environments.

Here’s how you’ll be contributing to the team

You will be working closely with the core Platform and Security Operations team, to ensure what we build is secure and conforms to best practises as we fully embrace cloud and various data platform technologies. You need to be able to architect, design and implement reliable, repeatable implementations of security tooling and services.

Technical Specifics

These (and feeling comfortable with the above) are the only must-have ones for this role - everything else is flexible! You have..

  • A healthy passion about Cybersecurity and Information Protection
  • Experience with cloud providers (preferrably AWS, GCP), both in utilising its services and implementing best security practices in such an environment
  • Experience with Docker containerisation security
  • Strong communication skills, to promote awareness and adoption of DevSecOps culture, articulating complex and technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience in scaling security with automation e.g. including tooling in pipelines instead of manual remediation (guardrails, not gatekeeper)
  • Experience of threat modelling with Agile delivery teams - facilitate discussions when making tradeoffs between security, risks and platform/product requirements
  • Software engineering skills (ideally Java, Python), especially in regards to testing, deployment, monitoring

Nice to Have

  • Scripting skills - in either Python/Bash/Go
  • Promoter of SRE or DevSecOps practices
  • Good discipline and skill in producing written documentation and diagrams
  • Skill to work with pentesters, bug hunters and bug bounty programs
  • Knowledge of security standards (PCI DSS, ISO, SOC)
  • Experience with ELK stack or logging in general
  • Experience with IDS, SIEM, vulnerability scanning solutions
  • Experience with proxies, WAFs, CDNs and low-level networking concepts
  • Understand and know how to secure networks, containers and OS
  • Understanding of Scrum and Agile development
  • Basic understanding of statistics and data analytics
  • Knowledge of apparmor, seccomp, eBPF
  • Knowledge/interest in payment platforms, foreign exchange & highly complex systems
  • Be a customer of Wise

Also, qualifications aren’t that important to us. If you’ve got great experience, and you’re great at articulating your thinking, we’d like to hear from you.

And because we believe that diverse teams build better products, we’d especially love to hear from you if you’re from an under-represented demographic.
