Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) has an exciting IT Engineer II opportunity available within our Enterprise Information Security area. 

About the Role

The IT Engineer II is a hands-on role involved with the planning and execution of the BCBSM information security capabilities strategy. They will drive the design, implementation, and operations of technical solutions that enable the BCBSM Security team to protect the company from cyber threats. The successful candidate will have a mix of deep technical and system administration experience along with a demonstrated background in information security operations. 

Aspects/elements of the role may include:

  • Design, implement and maintain core security tools and capabilities supporting the cyber intelligence, detection and response domains.
  • Identify and drive process automation and improvements across the team.
  • Communicate effectively with multiple audiences spanning the BCBSM infrastructure and security teams.
  • Participate in short- and long-term planning effort with stakeholders IT groups. 
  • Work with business analysts, Architecture, and stakeholders to understand business needs.  Evaluate technical requirements for projects to determine the impact to the infrastructure. 
  • Assist in establishing requirements, methods and procedures for routine maintenance.
  • Deploy and review new, modified or enhanced system components or services.  Operationalize new components for service.
  • Support and help establish systems environment standards.  Work with auditors and security groups to ensure adherence to governance, regulations, and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Work with vendors to resolve problems.  Monitor services provided by vendors to ensure service levels meet requirements.  Evaluate vendor solutions to ensure compliance with requirements and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to less-experienced team members.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • 5 years of relevant technology work experience required.
  • Relevant certification is required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of broad range hardware and software products.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of products and services.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing environments.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with system users and other technical colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
